I share this to get you thinking about my buddy Gary, aka: Cookie. He is a sweet human being who is recovering from a nasty brain aneurysm. After being given only a 10% chance of survival, Cookie is proving the docs wrong every day and is living proof that miracles do happen. Yep, it'll be a long road to recovery, but if anybody has the faith and drive to make that journey it's Cookie. Keep him in your prayers, will ya? Thanks.

This tune is the theme song for a blues radio show Gary hosted. Love it.

One of my favorite Christmas songs has always been "O Holy Night"

One reason could be the crescendo at the end -- OH HOLY NIGHT! The excitement of the concept of this child who came to make such change in our lives, such innocence willing to suffer later for all the crap we pull.

Another reason is just the thought of someone loving me so much that they'd make the ultimate sacrifice... regardless of your beliefs, that kind of love is something hard to come by.

The last reason is simply this -- I've had the honor of sharing this song at my Mama's church for the past 5 or 6 years during their Christmas service. It's a simple service really... my favorite one was after floods had torn through the neighborhood and the church wasn't entirely finished being rebuilt. There were folding chairs all in a circle. Nobody was in the lead, nobody was smaller than the other -- we were all equal and all part of something sacred to us. I shared my song and at the end of the service, all lights went out as we each held in our hands a dim candle. Silent Night was sung in that dark, partially rebuilt, damaged and hurting building. But, for some reason, it was more full and beautiful than I'd ever seen it. Oh, HOLY night it was :-)

I hope you enjoy this gift, recorded on a crappy microphone through my computer in my (still being rebuilt) living room on a Wednesday afternoon in December. I didn't edit anything, this is as real as it gets I suppose.

Have a blessed Christmas. Do something -- even something small -- for someone else. We *are* the blessing in this world.

I wrote this song for a compilation disc that was put together to raise funds for an organization who helped many families after the tragic floods of 2008. We were one of those families.

Now, I dedicate this song to Karla Goettel, founder of Flood Them With Love for a courageous battle she is facing. Karla has a heart that has been a haven for many of us, my prayer is that she can be strong in the face of it all... we love you, Karla.
